18 January 2012- There will be a company meeting on the blacktop outside the Portables after school.

Company Commander C/CPT Carlos Ortiz- Cadet Captain Carlos Ortiz attends North Salem High School. He’s been in JROTC for three years and is now a junior. He’s been all over the country starting in Ridgecrest, California when he was born on November 18th, 1994. Then his family moved from state to state where he ended up in Nevada where he lived with his dad and was very close to his older brother.

In high school, Carlos started his freshman year in an Air Force JROTC program in Nevada when his first position was Special Operations Athletics NCO and was very successful in his old wing. Here in Salem, because of his past JROTC achievements, Carlos became a squad leader from the start. He then became the Alpha Company First Sergeant within a couple of weeks. Now, Carlos is a Company Commander and has some great plans in mind for the new year.

Because Carlos has always been involved in teams, even in Nevada, the Viking PT team welcomed Carlos because of his past achievements. Placing first at his old school for Panther Challenge and third as a team out of two teams for a competition held by the national guard.

Bravo Company First Sergeant Jed Adams-  Jed Adams was born in Ventura, California on March 13, 1995. He lived there until he was around 6 months olf and moved to Springfield, Oregon, then from there to Albany. After that he moved back to Springfield and then to Salem where he lives now. He has lived in Salem for 11 years now. His mom and dad got divorced when he was in the fourth grade and he lives with both of them.

As a LET 1 he joined JROTC and was in Alpha company. The next year he was a squad leader for Alpha. This year he is the 1sg of Bravo Company. He has participated in Muddy Buddy for two years in a row and has been active in other community service activities as well as planning them and working for fundraising.

As a LET 1 he joined the Air Rifle team and succeeded in making the precision team the next year, and another year after that. Other teams that he has been on are the football team and the swim team. In football he played center, and defensive line. In swimming he specialized in the 500m freestyle race and the 50m freestyle.

He wants to continue his education at OSU and end up going to the army. After that he wants to get a job in engineering.
