Teams

Drill Teams- There are two types of drill in our drill team; Unarmed and Armed. They meet every morning, Monday through Friday at 6 am.

Our armed drill team is commanded by Cadet Staff Sergeant D.J. Allen and consists of both male and female cadets wielding 12 pound M-1903 rifles. We march with pride in a strict regulation phase, moving into exhibition where we spin and throw our rifles around to a previously practiced routine. Before all of this, we are inspected by a group of college ROTC cadets who ask us questions about our uniforms, senators, military commanders, leadership skills, and the different military values. The North Salem High School Drill teams have been coming out on top since Colonel Morse opened the program in 1996.

All this talk about drill; drill is one of the most precise sports to join. Yes, it is a sport, we are a team that works together to win, especially when it comes to marching in regulation. We proudly march across a drill floor knowing we are champions and the best. The Lady Vikings and the armed drill have both been very successful in years past, always placing in the top three. We are always striving to do better and work harder; we’re committed and dedicated to what we do. Both teams work together as a big family, but we are both different.

The Lady Vikings! An all girl’s unarmed drill team. Our famous routine is one of the best in the league. We’ve been invited to go to National’s and that’s our goal this year; to be all we can and overcome where we are now to be Daytona Beach worthy.

Color Guard-We have 3 Color guard teams; Color Guard A, The Varangian Team, which has been recognized as one of the best in the nation, year in and year out. Color Guard B members also compete at drill meets and they also perform local Color Guard events throughout the season. These two teams perform at approxiamtely 25% of the Portland Trail Blazer home games. Color Guard C, also supports our community and prepares younger Cadets for the responsibility we take very seriously

Air Rifle - The North Salem JROTC Air Rifle team competes in four drill meets. The team captain is c/Cpt Joe Drew. There are three teams; our Precision team, which consists of our best shooters; Sporter one, which is composed of our second best shooters and people who will move up to precision; and Sporter two which is like a JV team. We compete agains about 15 other schools in the Pacific Northwest. We have several really good shooters this year. As individuals, if we have shooters that can qualify, there is a chance that they can go to Ohio or Alabama and compete in the nationals. Air rifle is not very hard IF you like doing the same thing over, and over, and over again. Practice is always at 0600 sharp.

Physical Training – PT practice is Monday through Friday at 6:00 am. Practice consists of push-ups on Mondays and Thursdays, we work our Abs on Tuesdays and Fridays, which leaves us Wednesdays for Running conditioning.

There’s strong, then there’s JROTC strong. Which one will you choose to be?
